This page sets out exactly what we are and what we are not, so you can buy from us knowing where you stand. We are an independent retailer of small home appliances, trading as Appliance Discounts. We sell brand new appliances sourced through legitimate UK trade supply channels, and we are careful not to claim any status we have not been given.

What we claim, and what we do not

We do not describe ourselves as an official, approved or authorised dealer for Smeg, Ninja, Shark, DeLonghi, KitchenAid, Dyson, or any other manufacturer whose products we list. Those phrases have a specific meaning in the trade: they describe a formal appointment by the manufacturer. We do not hold such an appointment, so we do not use those words about ourselves. If you see them used about us anywhere, they did not come from us and they are not accurate.

What we do commit to is this:

  • Every appliance we sell is brand new unless the listing explicitly says it is refurbished.
  • Every appliance is UK specification and is supplied with a UK three-pin plug.
  • Where the manufacturer provides a standard guarantee with the product, that guarantee is supplied with it.
  • Everything we sell is sourced through legitimate UK trade supply channels.
  • What is written on the product page is what arrives at your door.

Where our stock comes from

We buy through UK trade supply channels, which means distributors, wholesalers and trade suppliers operating in the United Kingdom. Buying this way, rather than through a brand appointment, is part of how we keep our prices down. It does not make the goods any less genuine and it does not change your rights as a buyer. We sell to customers in the United Kingdom only and we do not ship outside the UK.

What refurbished means when we list it

Most of what we sell is new. Where an appliance is refurbished, we say so plainly in the listing rather than leaving you to work it out from the price.

Refurbished means the appliance is not new. It may have been opened, used, returned or repaired before it reached us, and it may show light cosmetic marks or arrive in packaging that is not the original retail box. The listing will describe the condition. A manufacturer guarantee may not apply to a refurbished unit, because that is the manufacturer’s decision, not ours. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 still apply in full, judged against the description we gave you.

Manufacturer guarantees and your statutory rights

A manufacturer guarantee is an extra promise made by the manufacturer, on terms the manufacturer sets. Those terms vary from brand to brand and from model to model, and some products come with no guarantee at all. A guarantee sits alongside your legal rights. It never replaces them and it cannot cut them down.

Consumer Rights Act 2015: satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, as described UK law Us. We sold you the goods, so the claim is against us
14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 UK law Us
Our 30-day returns promise with free return postage Us, on top of the law Us

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If they are not, you have 30 days from delivery to reject them for a refund. After that you can ask for a repair or a replacement, and if that does not put things right you can claim a price reduction or exercise the final right to reject. This is a legal right against us as the retailer. It is not a warranty, and nothing a manufacturer says can reduce it.

Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you have 14 days from the day you receive the goods to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send them back. That right is yours by law and stands on its own. Our 30-day returns promise sits on top of it and never replaces or limits it. Return postage is free either way. See Returns and Refunds and Warranty and Replacement for how to start.

How to verify what you have received

  1. Check the model number. It is printed on the rating plate on the appliance and on the outer box. Compare it with the model number on the product page you ordered from.
  2. Record the serial number. It is usually on the same plate. You will need it if you register the guarantee or contact the manufacturer.
  3. Check the plug and the documentation. You should have a UK three-pin plug and UK instructions.
  4. Ask the manufacturer. Call the manufacturer’s own support line with the model and serial number and ask them to confirm the product and the guarantee position. We encourage this. We would rather you checked than wondered.

If anything does not match the listing, tell us and we will sort it out. Do not feel you have to go to the manufacturer first. Your statutory rights are against us.
